Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins to Visit SA Dairy Farm

The South Australian Dairyfarmers’ Association (SADA) is pleased to welcome the Hon. Julie Collins MP, Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, on her visit to South Australia this week.

Minister Collins’ first stop will be a tour of the Brokenshire family dairy farm on the Fleurieu Peninsula—one of Australia's most picturesque and productive dairy regions—but also a region experiencing its worse drought on record.

This visit underscores the importance of South Australia's dairy industry, which continues to lead the nation with its advances in technology, traceability, and sustainable production. It allows us to highlight the significant impact that the prolonged drought is having on dairy farm production, cashflow and profitability.

"South Australian dairy has been moving ahead in leaps and bounds, particularly in the areas of innovation and transparency across the supply chain," said Andrew Curtis, CEO of SADA. "This drought has applied a huge handbrake on these developments. While our farms remain committed to the provision of quality and nutritious dairy products for South Australian consumers and the world, it is important that the Minister understand the impact of this drought on our farms and communities.

SADA looks forward to meaningful discussions with the Minister on how federal support can further strengthen the sustainability and competitiveness of dairy in South Australia and beyond.
